This article discusses the First Presidency of the Church during Ezra Taft Benson's presidency from 1985-1994. It presents his presidency against the backdrop of previous church presidencies and the changes that occurred--local and global. It then addresses the changing global map for Mormonism and the progress the Church underwent during these years, as well as the domestic response to church initiatives at this time. Overall, the presidency of Ezra Taft Benson was made up of all kinds of tensions and opposing impulses that resulted in a kind of "middle road" idea.
