This chapter focuses on Ezra Taft Benson's use of the Book of Mormon in promoting conservative values. In a conference address, Benson said, "The Book of Mormon has a lot to say about America, freedom, and secret combinations." These themes played an important role in Benson's use of the Book of Mormon as a political guide. For example, conservative values preserved freedom and promoted American exceptionalism, while he viewed communism as a modern secret combination.
