"In this essay, I argue that both Restoration churches [the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints] developed a moderate position on civil rights, despite many members and leaders opposing the civil rights movement. I also explore how both churches responded to Martin Luther King’s death, which fundamentally changed how the RLDS and LDS First Presidencies viewed his legacy." [Author]
