The article discusses the history of female ritual healing in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including the practices of washing and anointing. Also included is a discussion on the views of several early Mormon leaders, such as Joseph Smith, Joseph F. Smith, and Brigham Young. The role of the sixth general president of the Relief Society, Clarissa Smith Williams, is examined. Also investigated is the relationship between female healing roles and doctrinal reform in the Church.
