8 October 1898 to 5 October 1904. Clawson is made a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles by Lorenzo Snow. He works with the Church finances and records the incomes and liabilities of the Church yearly. Clawson records his correspondence and the meetings of the apostles, including issues discussed, and the positions various apostles take. The Twelve decide to issue church bonds, establish several missions, and regulate the finances of the church. Some church properties are sold to help pay debts, but the Federal Government seizes property. The various Apostles report on their travels, regulating the Church and discuss doctrine and Church policy. Church leaders begin to emphasize tithing, and decide that non-payers should be dropped from Priesthood Quorums. Reed Smoot is encouraged to run for the U.S. Senate. Snow dies and Joseph F. Smith is called as President of the Church. Clawson conducts meetings in Idaho and Utah. Clawson ends his diary as Joseph F. Smith expresses concern that too many of the Church Councils has been reported in private journals.
