The popular Church film "The Windows of Heaven" produced in 1962 depicts Lorenzo Snow promising the Saints of drought-stricken St. George that it will rain if they pay their tithing. There is no available contemporary evidence supporting this promised tithing-rain link. The record does show that Lorenzo Snow did receive a revelation about the importance of renewed emphasis on tithing and he made inspired promises for paying tithes, but not to the effect that paying tithing would bring rain to break the drought. This tithing-rain link originated 35 years after Lorenzo Snow's St. George visit when LeRoi Snow, Lorenzo's son, published some reminiscent accounts of the event. In 1899, when Pres. Snow visited St. George, the Church was in dire financial straits because of overspending, poor financial management, decline in tithing revenues, and financial pressure caused by government confiscations of properties. A Church-wide tithing reformation enabled the Church to gain control of its finances by 1907.
