Article deals with the punitive expeditions of the Nauvoo Legion against Utah Indians during the first five years of settlement (1847-52) as well as overall treatment of the Indians and attitudes towards them by the general Mormon population. Author feels that in spite of theoretical benevolence Mormons had for the Indian in practice they were no different from their fellow whitemen.
