Bachman reconfirms with additional information the long held thesis that the origins of LDS plural marriage began in Ohio. He examines Section 132 for internal evidence and also studies the general theology of the period for clues. Summary: Plural marriage was religiously motivated. 'This context included Smith's work on the revision of the Bible, his intense Old Testament biblicism, and the exercise of his authority based on a perception of the prophetic prerogatives which left him intellectually untrammeled.'
