(One of three articles, collectively titled 'Mormonism and Polygamy,' which discuss plural marriage from differing perspectives. The first, 'The 'Mormonism' of Today,' by Mormon leader Joseph F. Smith, is a statement of defense for plural marriage, reasons for its abandonment, and practices of the Church. The second, 'Plural Marriage in America,' by RLDS president Joseph Smith III, attempts to show that Joseph Smith did not introduce plural marriage. The third, 'Origin of American Polygamy,' by John T. Bridwell, is critical of both sides, saying that Joseph Smith was the originator of polygamy but also a deceiver.)
