This book is a combination of two treatises: Mormonism and the Negro by John J. Stewart and The Church and the Negroid People by William E. Berrett. Stewart seeks an answer to why Blacks were not permitted to hold the priesthood for so long by claiming that they were less valiant or faithful in the premortal life. Berrett claims that dark skin is a result of being a descendant of Cain and discusses the attitude of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints towards Blacks throughout history. Both authors state that they are writing as individuals and not on behalf of the Church.
