Nathaniel Kogan reviews some of the articles found in 1950's and 1960's national magazines and newspapers which were about the Church. Aside from the Church's wealth, a major point of discussion was the priesthood ban for Black men. This public image was one reason the Church decided to participate in the fair. The Church was one of five church groups to register for a separate pavilion at the World's Fair. Apostles Mark E. Petersen and Harold B. Lee, Church employee David W. Evans, stake president Stanley McAllister, and Professor Kenneth Beesley were all driving forces behind the LDS pavilion. Performances by the Tabernacle Choir were very popular at the pavilion. This article includes information on the design and construction of the pavilion, as well as a floor plan. It also discusses the content of the exhibits at the pavilion. Approximately 6 million people visited the pavilion.
