Is Mormonism a world religion? Wilfried Decoo's essay sets the research agenda for future scholars interested in taking up this question, and many others related to the internationalizing of Mormonism. Like van Beek, Decoo emphasizes the American particularities of the contemporary LDS Church, and interrogates the utility of the concept of "gospel culture," arguing instead for the importance of local adaptations, accommodations, and enculturation. Echoing Takagi's call for more of a focus on local communities in the study of Mormon missions, Decoo calls upon researchers to consider the negative dimensions of Mormon proselytizing, particularly the effect on families and communities in the study of Mormon missions, Decoo calls upon researchers to consider the negative dimensions of Mormon proselytizing, particularly the effect on families and communities. Through a series of penetrating questions and insights, Decoo sets before us an ambitious research agenda for years to come. [Editor's summary]
