This article marks the conclusion of Johnson and Johnson's Mormon Outmigration Leadership History Project. In the article, Johnson and Johnson first provide an overview of the history of the Mormon outmigration and a quick explanation of Richard Bushman's theory that new congregations pass through three phases before they become fully operational. Second, they explain the type of information that was gathered in order to create the Outmigration Archive and the method they used to collect the information. The Archive is currently housed in the L. Tom Perry Special Collections. Third, they "contextualize the outmigration in religious, social, and historical perspectives in comparison with other migrating populations." Fourth, they highlight the similarities they found among the motivations that caused individuals to outmigrate and list questions their study raised. The article concludes by presenting three case studies to allow the reader to understand the type of information that can be found in the Archives.
