Two schismatic movements which incorporated feminist innovations in their beliefs and practices are examined. The two groups examined are the Alpheus Cutler group and Sidney Rigdon's "Children of Zion" church. He explores the question of these feminist traditions springing forth from a supposedly patriarchal subculture. He points out shadowings of these feminist ideas in Joseph Smith's Nauvoo theology.
