This article explores the secularization of both the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Fundamentalist groups that stemmed from it. It takes into account the way in which national expectations of cultural norms and economic stability influenced the growth and evolution of these churches, with wealth (or lack thereof) becoming a religious as well as socio-cultural indicator.
