"I experienced global Mormon history as an undergraduate in India and a missionary in Sweden. Like many Latter-day Saints who brush up against it in similar settings, my early curiosity was as deep as uncovering the first paper-thin layer of a large onion. I found the first challenge is that potential readers are satiated by the superficial narrative if it is triumphant and faith promoting. As scholars peel off other layers of an expanding global Mormon narrative, challenges emerge. I will briefly address a few that I have experienced over the past eight years of formal academic study of Mormonism in India. I will focus particularly on what I see as the greatest challenge in global Mormon history—the fact that North Americans do most of the work. I hope to also suggest a few solutions meant to open a conversation to uncover other possible remedies." [Author]
