On August 22, 1933, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed a proclamation creating a national monument at Cedar Breaks, a spectacular fan-shaped basin three miles wide and two thousand feet deep, featuring pink and orange limestone spires, located on southwestern Utah's Markagunt Plateau.
