This paper will analyze recent attempts to grapple with the questions of Church doctrine in the effort to show the challenges involved in establishing precise criteria to distinguish doctrine from beliefs, teachings, or policies. Furthermore, these models point to deeper theological issues that emerge in the attempt to reconcile infallible doctrinal truths with the growth of understanding implied in Mormonism’s concept of modern revelation. This paper does not seek to resolve these issues, but to help clarify the questions for future work and discussion
