The article discusses how conversion narratives of Methodism influenced the religious writings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, Jr. and the belief system of the LDS Church. Beginning with the First Vision of the Prophet, it traces his efforts to start the LDS movement, guided by visions from God. The author attempts to define true religion within Methodism and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and cites concern from Methodism founder John Welsey of the staying power of the Methodist Church's beliefs and practices.
