This article seems quite interesting because it presents a side of history that is not often seen, the home life. Sis. Horne arrived in the Valley in 1847. From that beginning, she describes in turn, the dwelling arrangement of the pioneers, their food situation, and a number of miscellany. Among other things, she discusses (1) how their flat-roofed houses were unsuited for a rainy spring, (2) a pioneer mousetrap device, (3) the miracle of the gulls, and (4) a minor earthquake they experienced. Chronologically, she only describes a year and half in the Valley.
