Translated into French by Henry D. Davray. Approximately 1,000 words, in ink with numerous corrections. Fine manuscript, with a note at the end by Robert Ross, Wilde's literary executor. This translation was published in the Revue Blanche, 1 May, 1899. The original English text first appeared in The Fortnightly Review in 1894 and was pirated by Carrington in Paris in 1905. Davray actually translated only five of the six prose-poems. He became a good friend to Wilde in exile and was one of the mourners at his funeral.
