With many illustrations. First sixteen years. Thackeray was the first editor of this influential magazine to which he contributed, among other pieces, The Adventures of Philip, Lovel the Widower, Denis Duval and The Four Georges. Other serials that ran during this period were George Eliot's Romola; Trollope's Framley Parsonage, The Small House at Allington, The Claverings; Wilkie Collins' Armadale; Meredith's Adventures of Harry Richmond; and Hardy's Far from the Maddling Crowd. A good sturdy consecutive run.
