Original manuscript of this short story, written on 31 pages, approximately 3,000 words. A fine readable manuscript. It is a short story about a fire on a train and its dire consequences to the occupants of the carriage where it broke out. Swindon, where Jefferies lived for a while and where is situated the main Works of the Great Western Railway, enters into the tale. It would appear to be a very early work and it may have been written for The North Wilts Herald or Swindon Advertiser, two newspapers to which Jefferies contributed articles and stories. But in all probability it is unpublished. Jefferies manuscripts seldom appear on the market.
