Concludes that certain religious groups are more productive of scholars than others, and that Mormon values in common with values of certain 'moderately liberal' Protestant churches had a positive influence on production of scholars, especially scientists. Utah is first in productivity for all fields combined in all time periods, though some other states lead in particular fields or periods. He assigns some reasons for this. Covers period 1920 to 1961.
