B.H. Roberts pushed for Mormon involvement in the World's Parliament of Religions held in conjunction with the World's Fair at Chicago in 1893. Church efforts were belated. The 'episode tells us something about relations between presiding quorums of the Church, and about the compromise that often results when ultimate objectives give way to immediate needs, about the inadequacy of public relations efforts, and the relationship between Mormonism and the larger Christian community.'
