An identical structured questionnaire was administered to more than 1,000 Brigham Young University students in 1935 & in 1973 to measure shifts in religious beliefs & practices over this thirty-eight-year period. The trend was toward conservatism, involving decreases in indecision along with across-the-board increases in orthodoxy & conformity. Magnitude of change varied among the thirty-six questions asked, with behavioral items generally showing greater change than belief items--but with all change showing up in the conservative direction.
