Author feels Bushman stretches the 'uniqueness' argument for Mormon origins far more than the sources warrant, feels that the chapter on the Book of Mormon has a weak scholarly foundation, and that Bushman puts the date of Joseph's cessation of money-digging (1925) at least two years too soon. In fact, Hill argues that Joseph never gave up the belief of using supernatural means to find buried treasure. Hill also feels that Bushman's book may be one of the most important books ever written on Mormon history.
