The history of the Mormon settlement of southeastern Idaho, beginning with its consideration as a place of settlement when they were planning the trek west to the turn of the century, is reviewed. The authors look at the first settlements, ethnic origins, economic history, and politics. The article concludes with a summary of reasons why study of the settlement of southeastern Idaho is broadly instructive.
