Only recently has the question of the ordination of women received any significant attention by Mormons. The practice of priesthood exclusion, with biblical roots, was rarely challenged. It cannot be inferred, however, that the New Testament has provided irrefutable sanction for banning women from ecclesiastical equality. A precise understanding of early Mormon practices in regard to 'ordination' and 'setting apart' seems needed to separate dogma from accepted practice in this matter. In terms of biblical evidence there is no reason to deny ordination to female church members. Instead, compelling reasons recommend it.
