Latter-day Saints look back to Nauvoo for many of the roots of their religious heritage. The ordinances of the temple, revealed, taught, and empowered to a select vanguard of Saints in the last years of Joseph Smith's life in Nauvoo, are central in the religious heritage of Saints today. Nauvoo is a link between today's Saints and their religious roots. Reviewing Joseph Smith's life and ministry clarifies the recognition that Nauvoo was where he fulfilled his religious mission. The centerpiece and focal point of his mission was the temple.
