Although most media images of the Mormon Church were usually negative at the turn of the century, a 1904 set of stereoscopic images produced by Underwood & Underwood was surprisingly free of slander and scorn. It was a boxed set of 29 views which depicted the Church's image in the mainstream of middle-class American values. This collection depicted Mormon historic sites in New York, Illinois, and scenes in Utah. An appendix (pp. 175-76) lists the captions printed on each of the views in the set.
