On the Different World of Utah : The Mormon Church
Vital Speeches of the Day
1 January 1986
In his speech to the National Collegiate Honors Council, Clayton discusses current American views of Utah. Clayton feels most Americans see Utah as Mormon controlled, and to a certain extent they are right. He describes the politically conservative and liberal groups in the Church, as well as the controversy between historians and the Church over what kind of history should be written. He feels the Church is struggling with American culture and that the Church will continue to accommodate in order to support present needs.
