Heath discusses briefly the origins, motivations for, history of, and various forms of the Hosanna Shout in Mormonism. Its origin in the Church was associated with the Kirtland Temple, even though some members may have given the shout before they joined the Church. Heath only speculates on the motivations. The shout was used infrequently during the 19th century, and in the 20th century has been reserved mostly for temple dedications. It has always been associated with deep spiritual feelings on the part of the participants.
