Paul A. Schettler (1827-1884) was born in Prussia and emigrated to America in 1858. In 1860, he joined the Church in New York City and traveled to Utah in the Jesse Murphy company that year. His talents were quickly recognized. He opened the Netherlands to missionary work, was with Church leaders for the rededication of the Holy Land for the return of the Jews, helped promote Utah's silk industry, served as Salt Lake City treasurer for twenty years, and was a secretary in the 1873 United Order.
