During the 1890s, Mormon and non-Mormon women submerged their former conflicts over polygamy and forged alliances linking their common community interests. They joined in collective action to solve social problems, promote suffrage, development of kindergartens, the club movement, and the 1893 Chicago World's Fair. However, this carefully nurtured alliance was damaged over the furor raised by the campaign to unseat B. H. Roberts in the Congress. Polygamy was a divisive issue between Mormon and non-Mormon women until at least World War I.
