This revisionist interpretation of the causes of the Utah War equally faults both U.S. Pres. James Buchanan and Mormon President Brigham Young for this needless and costly confrontation between the federal government and the Mormon Church. The authors point to factors like inflammatory rhetoric, poor communication styles, poor decisions, and millennial expectations as factors contributing to the costly blunder.
