This book discusses the life of Ina Coolbrith, born Josephine Donna Smith, the daughter of Don Carlos Smith and the niece of Joseph Smith. She experienced many tragedies, including the death of her father, the heavy persecution that led her mother to abandon the Church, her husband's attempt to murder her, and being fired from her job. Despite this, or perhaps because of it, she was a wonderful poet, and she befriended many other writers. In 1915, she was chosen as the first Poet Laureate of California.
This work also contains illustrations, a genealogical chart, an essay on Coolbrith, a chronological list of poems, and lyrics set to music. -
