Llewellyn Harris was a great missionary among the Native Americans in Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah. He learned over twenty dialects of local Indian tribes. When Harris, a native Welshman, heard rumors of a group of White Indians in Arizona who spoke Welsh, he was excited to accompany Jacob Hamblin in finding them and preaching to them, as he was called to do by President Brigham Young. In his travels, while he never found an isolated community of Welsh Indians, Harris found evidence of Welsh influence in both the language and tradition of the Indians he encountered.
