This article describes the social and political factors contributing to the murder of two American missionaries in Bolivia. It explains the strong connection most Latin American countries draw between the United States of America and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and the resulting perceived threat posed by missionaries to politics, religion, and culture. The author makes suggestions as to how the Church can change this perception and improve relations with Latin American countries.
