This article defines three types of anxiety-- separation anxiety, castration anxiety, and existential anxiety-- and classifies members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints into four personality types based on the interplay of these anxieties. These personality types are: compliant-dependent, social-organizational, skeptic-individual, and transcendent-integrated. The author indicates that people of each personality type have something unique and valuable to offer to the Church and to their individual religious lives.
