Purpose of the article is to determine who invented the roadometer that accompanied the pioneer company to Salt Lake Valley in 1847. Author has Wm. Clayton conceiving the idea, Orson Pratt designing the device, and Appleton Harmon constructing it. Author sees much of the to-do over who invented the roadometer lying with Clayton who feared he would not receive credit. Author also believes roadometer on display at Temple Square Museum was one made for a return trip to Winter Quarters and not the original.
