This work discusses Latter-day Saint identity and how Latter-day Saints developed a strong internal identity due to unique practices, persecution, and proximity. This identity led to many converts to immigrate to Utah, and the identity of a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints often eclipsed and previous national or cultural identity. However, Saints were encouraged to build up Zion in their own lands instead of immigrating to Utah, polygamy was ended, Saints stopped working together as a community for activities such a building church buildings, and World War II caused many young men to go inactive, leading the sense of community and uniqueness of the LDS identity to weaken.
