Analysis of topics pertaining to religious rights while the constitution of the new State of Idaho was being written. With examples of early drafts and influences of some politicians, the author shows rationale leading to disfranchisement of members of the Church of Latter-day Saints (Mormons). The constitution, with its undemocratic provisions, was adopted without opposition among the delegates (51 to 0) in 1889, but shortly after statehood (1894) the Mormons were given voting privileges.
