The editor of the SAINTS' HERALD, official journal of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, describes the church's 131-year effort to build a temple. Pioneers of the church acquired land for a temple in 1831, their first year in Independence. Their years of persecution are summarized. In 1894, the U.S. Circuit Court in Kansas City recognized that the Reorganized Church was the rightful owner of the temple lot. The temple was built between 1926 and 1962. The most important persons associated with its building are identified, and some atttention is given to such things as planning, financing, and construction.
