The law enforcement career of Arthur Pratt is examined. He was the son of Orson Pratt and Sarah M. Pratt, his first wife. Sarah and most of her children became disaffected with the Church because of the polygamy teachings and practices. Arthur Pratt was excommunicated just a week prior to serving Brigham Young with a subpoena as a newly-appointed deputy U.S. marshal. During his career, he tracked down polygamists during the Raid, served as Salt Lake City police chief, and was warden at the Utah State Prison.
