This article deals with the organization of the European Mormon crossing from the Atlantic to Utah. He discusses the seasonal nature of the crossing, the physical conditions, and other items, but focuses mostly on the organization for the crossing. Taylor contrasts it with other contemporary practices, such as those of the gold rush companies, though in spite of their superior organization the Mormons still experienced many of the hardships of their contemporaries. He says that the Mormon system of crossing the U.S. was characterized by the same thoroughness seen in their Atlantic crossing (which Taylor dealt with in another article).
