Looks at the ending of plural marriage in the context of the Mormon community. Author sees three responses to the Manifesto: First, fundamental alteration of lifestyle; Second, outright rejection of the Manifesto; Third, acceptance of the Manifesto. Author sees period between the first and second Manifesto as a time where the Saints worked out the problems inherant to changes in the basic/core structure of a society. Plural marriage was at heart of a religious practice.
