The purpose of this article is to determine the extent Reed Smoot's public image changed over time. Author looks at comtemporary publications to do this. Smoot enjoyed a high visibility as a senator but low visibility as a personality. At first Smoot was seen as the Mormon senator who was controlled by the LDS Church. At the end he was viewed as a powerful conservative senator who was a Mormon. His image went from negative to positive.
