Considers Brigham Young's opinions of doctors and the practice of medicine. He had little patience with orthodox medicine dependent on harsh drugs dangerous to the patient. Thomsonianism seemed preferable, though Young generally enjoined prevention. Mormons were to adhere 'to the Word of Wisdom and follow . . . common sense rules of health.' He often expressed his distrust of the medical profession. As medical knowledge advanced, however, he became more accepting.
