The Mormon War excited fears on the part of the U.S. Government and the Mormons concerning the Colorado River. The Government feared an invasion by Mormons down the river and the Mormons feared a government invasion coming up it. The article deals with the exploration activities of both parties on the Colorado in their efforts to ascertain the position, strength, and motives of the other as well as use of the river for themselves.
